The lenticular is a complex product. You need to know what you want to achieve in order not to be disappointed with the result. Depending on the desired effect, the lenticular screen and the price may be different.
Generally the lower the resolution of the screen is (expressed in Lenses per Inch or « LPI"), thicker is the screen, stronger the 3D effects are. But the lowest resolutions are only acceptable for large formats. The opposite is also true.
There are two main categories in classical cylindrical lenticular screens:
The wide formats: mainly printed using digital inkjet printers, they are made to be viewed from about 2 or 3 meters. They are mostly printed on thick materials and available for small quantities from the unit.
We recommend two main types:
- 20 LPI 3D: with a 4mm thickness, this media is the most expensive but also the most impressive. It is made to give big 3D sensations.
- 40 LPI: from an average thickness of 1mm, this substrate is much cheaper than the previous one. The printed animations is more precise but it’s small thickness limits the 3D effect, especially for big sizes. This media is made to be chosen for 2 images flips in wide formats.
The small formats : offset printed directly on the back of thin lenticular foils, they are accessible in big quantities.
- The 40 LPI allows very big animations bit with a limited quality.
- The 60 and 62 LPI: they are respectively adapted to 3D or animation. They should be used for big formats or when strong visual effects are required.
- The 75 LPI: This type of lenses is adapted to most products allowing to display animations as well as 3D.
- The 100 LPI: it is the thinnest « industrial » lenticular substrate. You can us it to print very thin 3D for small formats up to the A5.
